Mary Anne spent many years in the Worker’s Compensation Insurance industry as a Claims Adjuster. After that she had a variety of positions including as a test driver for Mercedes and other manufactures (High Altitude reliability testing). Recently she had been retired (due to medical issues) and volunteered at local charities and civic organizations. Those included The Douglas County PSAC (Public Safety Advisory Committee), The Douglas County Democratic Party, The Prairie Unitarian Universalist Church and The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Hall of Fame Committee.
Mary Anne and Fred moved to Parker, Colorado in 1994.
Mary Anne had been very active volunteering with the California Sports Car Club Region of the SCCA prior to moving to Colorado. She was the first Woman Flag Chief of a Region of SCCA, the first woman Flag Chief at a Formula 1 race (Long Beach), the first woman to be allowed in the NASCAR pits (Riverside). Cal Club Worker of the year 1976, and many other accomplishments in the Road Racing community. She crewed for Fred during his racing career and was a strong supporter of their passion. Mary Anne and Fred traveled to and volunteered at many F1 and SCCA races throughout the years, including Mexico City 1990 and 1991 for the return of F1 and several SCCA National Championship races.
Mary Anne loved to garden and read, she loved all animals and her friends scattered around the world, including pen pal of 50+ years, Tim Greenwood of Hampshire England. She always looked for the positive side of things and was an inherently optimistic person.
She really enjoyed her new state and traveled throughout it on both 2 and 4 wheels with Fred and her beloved fur babies. Last year she completed a 2-week cruise to the Mediterranean with her siblings with the highlight being able to walk on the Streets of Monaco, unfortunately without F1 cars.
She is survived by her husband Fred, siblings Michael McGinley (Laurie) Washougal, Washington; Patrick McGinley (Gretchen) Franklin, Pennsylvania; Martha Lou McGinley Gianelli (John) Prunedale, California; Kimball McGinley (Cynthia) Laguna Nigel, California; Joel McGinley (Jane) Merritt Island, Florida and Nephew Andrew McGinley El Monte, California. She is also survived by her most recent K9 rescues, Lewis Hamilton (Lewie) Slick and Chloe Slick.
Mary Anne is proceeded in death by her parents, many close friends, and many animals that she rescued and loved over the years.
There will be at least one celebration of Life in the future, at a date and time to be determined.
In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local animal rescue organizations, and they ask that you take the time to attend an SCCA race and/or volunteer your time supporting a race.
