Matthew Michael Colligan, age 52, of Castle Rock, passed away on January 11, 2026, with his loving family at his side. He was born on April 9, 1973, in Des Plaines, Illinois, the son of Michael Henry and Nedra Dee (Mitchell) Colligan.
Matt was raised in Woodstock, IL and moved to Denver when he was 18 and began a life full of dreams and endless possibilities. He was an entrepreneur at heart, cultivating and networking to create businesses that enriched the community he lived in. Matt was a devoted father and a devout follower of Jesus – both paramount to his legacy.
Matt met Julie Johnson in 2001, and she complimented him and supported the ambitious goals he set ahead of himself. In 2004, they were married and had two children: Grant and Allison. Julie brought an added sense of adventure for Matt, as they were blessed to have traveled across the globe to relax, explore, and continue to find ways to create a better world for those in it. Matt and his family are members of Grace Chapel in Castle Rock, where Matt served as an elder for the past year. Although always on the go, Matt found time to make others smile through his great sense of humor, his laughter, and heart of gold. Matt was also an avid Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos fan.
In addition to his wife, Julie, Matt’s legacy includes his children Grant Colligan and Allison Colligan; his sister Jean Schmuki and her husband Kevin and Jean’s children Joshua, James, Josiah, Jeremiah, Jairus, Jonathan, and Jade; his parents Michael and Nedra; parent-in-laws Mark and Margie Johnson; brother-in-law Scott Johnson, wife Tina and their daughter Sara; and brother-in-law Brian Johnson, wife Ashley and daughter Stella. Matt was preceded in death by his nephew, Seph Johnson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Chapel, located at 933 Evalena Rd, Castle Rock, Colorado, 80108, on January 24, 2026, starting at 2:00 pm.
