Mildred "Millie" Alayne (Cayou) Koon

She was born in Denver, Colorado on September 12, 1933. Millie graduated from West High School (Denver). She attended Point Loma Nazarene College for one year following her high school graduation.

Millie married Clifford L Koon on October 13, 1955. She worked for 20 years as a bookkeeper for Saint Mary’s Academy school in Englewood, Colorado. Her passion was studying the word of God and in her later years at Bonaventure Living Community, she led several Bible Studies. Millie cared deeply that people were “remembered” and would leave each person a birthday card as well as a Christmas card. She was also an avid animal/dog lover and “adopted” her last dog, Titan, the year before she passed. She was a member of Denver First Church of the Nazarene throughout her life. One of her later-life passions was to write poetry on topics such as heaven, children, pain, suffering, rejoicing, family, and forgiveness.

Millie is survived by her daughter, Judy (Koon) Schnurr; (husband Mark Schnurr); Grandchildren, Ryan Benda, Jennifer Benda and Jayme Benda-Thomas (husband Jonathan Thomas). Step grandchildren, Valerie Stavenik (husband John Hutton), Ashley Conger (husband Mike), Samantha Cooper (husband Todd) and Luke Schnurr (wife Brynn).

Great-grandchildren Michael Benda and Anastasia Benda (parents Jayme Benda-Thomas and Jonathan Thomas) and Jennifer Benda’s 2 children. Additionally, great grandchildren Everett, Chloe and Autumn (parents Samantha and Todd Cooper). She also had great grandchildren Valerie and John (3 children), Ashley and Mike (3 children).

A celebration of life service for Millie will be held Friday, May 9, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Olinger Andrews Caldwell Gibson Chapel, 407 Jerry Street, Castle Rock, CO 80104. Inurnment will be private.
