Perry Ross Stoddard

A visitation for the public is scheduled for 5-7:30pm, Friday, August 10, 2012 at Olingers Andrews Caldwell Gibson Funeral Home, 407 Jerry Street, Castle Rock, CO 80104. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 11:00am at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 550 Wolfensberger Rd, Castle Rock, Colorado. Pastor Chris Matthis will officiate. Interment will be held at Westport, SD at a later date.

Perry was born on September 28, 1922 in Brown County, SD, the son of George W. and Jennie M. (Faurot) Stoddard. On September 30, 1943, he married Elsie Delores Thompson in Aberdeen, SD. A retired music teacher and choir director, Perry was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Castle Rock, and a former member of Faith Lutheran Church in Chisholm, MN. A lifelong music lover, vocalist, and musician, he played string bass in dance bands in S.D., and in the Community Orchestra in Chisholm, MN. He loved directing choir in both school and church, and always had a song to sing.

Perry was moved to Brookside Inn in March of 2011, after a brief hospitalization. He remained there until his death, enjoying the friendly and professional staff, the social atmosphere, and spiritual support.

Mr. Stoddard is survived by his children: Patricia Johnson and her husband Rod, of Esko, MN; Susan Stoddard of Kent, WA; Robert Stoddard and his wife Sue of Castle Rock, CO; and Kristi Lyons and her husband Mike, of Colorado Springs, CO; nine grandchildren: Heidi (Jeff) Roemer, Jeremy (Abby) Johnson, Elizabeth (Daecon) Schartok, Peter (Kate) Stoddard, Maren Stoddard, Gretchen (Zach) Pursley, Kimber Sandback, Ben Stoddard and Nathan (Tara) Sandback; six great-grandchildren: Simon and Felicity Schartok, Hannah and Hunter Roemer, Jada Johnson, and Kaydra Sandback.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Delores Stoddard, who died June 24, 2005 of multiple myeloma; and his eldest child, Claudia Winebrenner, who died in 2011 of post-polio complications. Perry died of pneumonia and heart failure.
