
He was born on a farm located in Liberty Township, Henry County, Ohio, son of Hinrich Homann and Johanna Hogrefe ,the sixth of seven children. He was a graduate of Ridgeville Corners High School (1941) and The Ohio State University, majoring in Business Administration and Accounting, ultimately becoming a CPA.
Ralph joined the Army Air Corp (11/5/1942-2/4/1946) serving as a mechanic and crew chief, attaining rank of Staff Sargent working on P-38s. After graduating from Ohio State, he worked as a staff auditor for Ernst & Ernst, joining Libby-Owens Ford Glass Company in 1961 as an Accounting Manager and Corporate Controller until his retirement in 1985. Ralph was an active member of Monroe Street United Methodist Church until moving to Colorado in 2019. An avid golfer he had 3 hole-in-ones the last of which was playing with his two grandsons at the age of 90, 128 yards using a 3 wood, nothing but the cup!
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Charlotte Colvin Homan, brothers Lawerence, Robert and Richard, sisters Josephine Sheldon, Augusta Peck and Dorothy Vinings. He is survived by his daughter Paula Dooley (Charles), grandchildren Erin Schmergel (Alec) of Denver, CO, Connor and Liam Dooley of Castle Rock, CO.
A graveside memorial is planned for September 29 at Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ralph's name to Monroe Street United Methodist Church or The American Heart Association.
A memorial service for Ralph will be held Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Toledo Memorial Park, 6382 Monroe St., Sylvania, OH.
