Born on September 14, 1930, in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, Emery was the son of Andrew and Anna Ohrin. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his seven siblings.
Emery proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War, an experience that reflected his lifelong sense of duty and commitment. Following his military service, he pursued higher education at the University of Baltimore, earning his bachelor’s degree and laying the foundation for a distinguished professional career. For most of his working life, Emery was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation, where he negotiated defense contracts with integrity and skill.
Above all, Emery was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He shared 68 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Joan (Bond) Ohrin, after they met as teenagers on the International Harvester bowling team and reunited following his naval service. He is survived by Joan; his four children, Laura Menzi (Paul), Lisa Wilson (Laurence), Gregory Ohrin (Denise), and Linda Ohrin (Alyssa); and his cherished grandchildren, Grant, Jordan, Jacob, and Camden. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and he will be remembered for his steady guidance, quiet strength, and enduring love.
Emery’s life was marked by service—to his country, to his profession, and most importantly, to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, humor, and deep devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Emery’s life will be remembered and celebrated on April 7, 2026, with a funeral Mass and a gathering of family and friends. Due to the small size of the chapel at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, the funeral Mass will be limited to family members. Friends who knew Emery (and Joan) in Ellicott City, met the Ohrin family when they joined the St. Joseph’s Nursing Home family 9 months ago, or have become part of their work families, neighborhood families, church families, or school families through the years are invited to gather on Tuesday, April 7th at Kelsey’s Restaurant in Ellicott City from 4-7 p.m. (See www.kesleysrestaurant.com for directions.) To assist with your planning, please note that there will be remarks and remembrances at 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Catonsville, Maryland, where Emery spent a joyous 9 months receiving excellent care and relished the company of the other residents and incredible staff.
