Joann will always be in my thoughts she was a wonderful person and really loved  our  National Parks especially Fort McHenry. I mention her often. Rip my friend. Huzzah 👍 

I think about Jo-Anne often, especially when I am presented with a challenge at work.  She mentored me throughout most of my career and provided me with a strong social work leadership foundation.  Sometimes my lessons from Jo-Anne were not work related.  At DSS we had to use our personal vehicles for travel to meetings, etc.  One day I drove us to a meeting downtown and struggled to park in this small space that she insisted I use.  Jo-Anne got frustrated with me, took my keys,  and parked my car by bumping the cars in front and in the rear.  I couldn't believe it!  When I asked her why she did that instead of finding another parking space, she told me "That's what bumpers are for!"  I laugh every time I struggle parallel parking.

Joann was a special person in the lives of many people. May Tom and her large family be comforted in the times you all shared. Sincerely Bill Emmerich

I was so sorry to hear that Jo-Anne passed.  It was due to her hard work  and that of Project Home staff throughout Maryland that in 1993 the Project Home HIV/AIDS Program was recognized by The Ford Foundation via The John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University as one of 25 Innovative State and Local Programs.

Our dearest Jan will be sorely missed in so many ways and in so many places. We drove together to Front Royal to collect Tom and two teenage boys whom Tom had graciously agreed to take hiking and camping along the Appalachian Trail, ending in Front Royal, VA. Jan and I found a charming little diner that served home made pies but the boys opted for MacDonalds where they gobbled up $40 worth of junk while Jan, Tom, and I enjoyed delicious diner food that you can hardly find anymore. 

My condolences to the family of Joanne. I met Joanne in the 80's when I was a foster care worker and she worked in Adoptions.  We worked on a case together.  I met up with her again in Adult Services.  She always encouraged me to go back to school to get my MSW.  In order to work in her unit Project  Home you had to have a masters degree. A few  years later I was part of her staff.  Joanne was very organized and would make sure her staff received what we needed plus more..  When she left,  Project Home was never the same.  Last year,  I was going through some papers and I found her phone number on a card she gave the staff before she left ProjectHome.  I called to see how she was doing and to give her an update on my life.  She definitely made an impact on my life. May she rest in the hands of the Heavenly Father.🕊🕊🕊🕊

I worked with JoAnne for 20 years at BCDSS while she was the Project HOME Program Manager.  She was a strong leader and amazing mentor who spoke her thoughts and feelings without hesitation.  She lifted people up and encouraged professional development.  She always had an open door for heart to heart talks and accepted all who entered.  She was so proud of her family and seemed to always be plotting the next hiking or skiing trip for her and Tom.  Her wonderful sense of humor, sense of adventure, desire to "push the envelope" and interest in new things will certainly be missed.  May your wings take you to new places my friend.  Jackie

I've known Jan since I was 9 years old. She was like a second Mom to me and always asked about details of my life. She always greeted me with enthusiasm and made me feel special. My favorite memory was always cookie baking day (with my Mom) for Jan's annual Christmas party.  Every year I would steal some raw cookie batter and Jan would exclaim that I was going to get Salmonella! We had lots of laughs and great conversations. I always loved being around Jan's upbeat and positive energy. I loved her way of blurting out the obvious and helping to solve problems. The rawness of Jan's departure will be felt in my heart for a long time. I can only take the cherished memories and time to help heal the grief.

Joanne was one of the most dedicated, people oriented, history expert as well as a very fine person.  I had the pleasure of working with her when she started volunteering at Fort McHenry in June of 2012.  She was also a dedicated State Employee where she assisted numerous clients and employees in the Department of Human Services. I will certainly miss her.

Jo-Anne was an intelligent, classy woman. It was clear she had a large love of volunteers' activities. She was a natural.  A deep loss to the community of the Fort, and the people who loved her.

Jan was one of a kind. She was always in the best mood, always laughing or finding something to make you laugh. She was kind, appreciative, an amazing social worker and a woman to be reckoned with. I will miss her terribly as there will never be another like her.

Jan was an amazing women, loving wife, loyal friend, dedicated career women, devoted family member and so much more.  Her laughter was contagious.  Her kindness was unconditional.  We love her, we miss her and she will forever be in our hearts.   Tracey and "Richie"
