April was born on October 8, 1970 in Hopewell, Virginia, to parents Joy Wright and James “Bill” Downs. She was the fourth of six children.
April grew up in Hopewell and Richmond, Virginia and moved to Colorado in 2001. She pursued jobs in customer service and childcare. She loved music, sewing, binge watching TV, and especially reading - April read thousands of books over her lifetime. After the death of her husband Dennis Kirsch in 2015, she met Scott Curtice in 2018 and was excited for the future.
April is preceded in death by her parents, Joy and Bill, her husband Dennis, and her brother Allen. She is survived by ex-husband Glenn and her children Holly (Casey), Chris (Heather), Allen, Brandon, and Mackenzie (Alex). She had multiple grandchildren: Glenn, Lily, Ivy, Ezekiel, Cyrus, Feryn, and Ezra, as well as one on the way. April is also survived by her siblings Karen (Rodney), Mark (Lisa), John (Crystal), and James (Charity), as well as many other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association in April’s name.
