Brandt Henry Bruxvooort was born on May 24, 1931 to Brandt and Sophia (Fryling) Bruxvoort in Buenos Aires, Argentina where his father was a missionary to a Dutch settlement. Brandt spoke Spanish only until he was about 4- 1/2 years old. Brandt, his twin brother Herman, brother Ralph and sister Dora were all born while they lived in Argentina. They returned to the United States in 1936 by boat and settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan where his sister Joanna and brother Marvin were born. The family then moved to Denver, Colorado where he attended Denver Christian Schools. At the young age of twelve he worked in a bicycle shop repairing and rebuilding bikes. Brandt graduated from South High School in 1949. After graduation he moved with his parents to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Shortly thereafter Brandt and Herman returned to Denver where they joined the armed forces. Brandt trained in Nevada with the Air National Guard in radio operations. The war in Korea ended before he was called to serve. Brandt and Lavonne met at Young People's Group at Second Christian Reformed Church. They married in 1955 and had three girls Denise, Gwen, and Betty. Brandt worked for Samsonite luggage for 37 years and then at the Denver Mint until he retired.
Brandt led a life of service and devotion to God. He loved his wife and his family. He was honest, kind, patient and hard working. He was a God fearing man who served his church. He was on church council for most of thirty years and taught catechism classes. He also served on the Denver Christian school board. Brandt was a perfectionist who loved to take care of his house, yard and cars. His hobbies included being a ham radio operator, fixing black and white tvs, repairing personal vehicles and teaching son-in-laws how to repair their own vehicles. After retirement Brandt volunteered for ten years as a driver for the Village, a part of the Christian Living Communities. Brandt remained at home with his wife of 63 years until he passed on Thursday, February 28, 2019. Brandt has touched our lives and will be deeply missed. We celebrate his new life with our Father in Heaven.
Brandt was preceded in death by his Mother, Father, brother Marvin, and daughter Denise. He is survived by his wife Vonnie, daughter Gwen (Don), daughter Betty (Dan), son-in-law Dann (Denise), eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
