

Claire passed away peacefully at St John’s Hospice on September 4, 2012 at the age of 92. She courageously battled congestive heart failure and COPD. Claire was a World War II veteran serving as sergeant in the WAC where she ran the motor pool in Maryland. Over the course of her life, she worked as a home maker, nurse’s aide, a hair dresser, and a school cook. She was born in Grand Rapid, MN and lived in Michigan, Utah, Washington, Hawaii, New Mexico, and Colorado.
Survivors include her daughter, Valerie Horton; her sisters Betty Baldwin and Alice Erickson, and her brother Vern Hafar; and her grandchildren: Richard Horton, Andrea Marshall (Horton), and Reina Hirose-Horton; and her great grandchildren, Skye, Maeta, Ellie, and Lewis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Thomas, and sons Bruce Wayne and Gary Douglas Horton.
A service will be 1:00-1:30p.m. Monday, Sept 10th at Caley Ridge Assisted Living (9350 E Caley Ave, Englewood). Her final resting place will be beside her husband at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
