Cole was born on April 23, 1987 in Colorado Springs CO. He grew up in Arvada Colorado, graduating from Arvada West High School in 2005. He obtained a BS degree in music from University of Colorado. Cole's commitment in life was "to live life with no regrets". There was no one who had a bigger heart; always supporting friends, first to roll his sleeves up, did his best work when times were tough and energized any event with a true passion for life. Cole was a free spirit, always on his own path. His true passion was music. He was involved with several bands; playing at South by Southwest, Red Rocks and other local venues. He grew up in the restaurant industry at Gunther Toody's Diner spinning malts. He continued working at various restaurants in all phases including serving, bartending, opening teams and training. In 2015 Cole (momentarily) put down his guitar and picked up a cocktail shaker. August 2018 Cole and his brother Brock opened two restaurants, Zig Zag Smokin' Burger and Meatball Eatery in Greenwood Village CO. As a master mixologist, he oversaw both bar operations, creating one of the most sophisticated bar and cocktail menus in Denver. Cole's creativity was endless; he worked on initial layout and design of the restaurants, developed the restaurants websites, all social media, marketing, emails, and menus - there was nothing Cole did not fully participate in with ZZ/MB. His management skills and knowledge of the hospitality industry grew immensely working with his brother Brock.
Cole's brother Brock was his best friend and business partner, the two had an unbelievable working relationship, but had been best friends from birth. They each had their area of expertise that perfectly complimented each other.
The last three hours of Cole's life were at Parker Adventist Hospital. His brothers Brock and Preston, Sister-in-laws Brittany and Krista and fiancée Sara Anaya were right there with him. His doctor's and the entire cardiac team worked heroically for over three hours to save Cole's life. We would specifically like to thank Dr. Sean Enkiri, the Parker Adventist cardiac team and the hospital for all that was done for Cole
Cole is survived by parents Kim and Rhonda Hopfenspirger, his fiancée Sara Anaya, brothers Travis, Grant (nephew Mason and niece Hannah), Preston (sister-in-law Krista) Brock (sister-in-law Brittany, triplet nieces Teegan, Tatum, and Taylor), Uncles Gary, and Lee Hopfenspirger ,Tom Wilson, Mark McIntosh (Ryan and Chad) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers we ask anyone and everyone ever impacted by Cole, to have a full cardiac screening. No one should ever die at 35 years old from heart disease. Any donations should be made to an animal rescue of choice - Tipper, Petey, Sara and Cole would all be grateful.
Our entire family is devastated. As parents we could not ask for a better son or be prouder of him and his accomplishments. The outpouring of love from family and friends has been a blessing during this time.
Cole always said, "Everything will be OK"
