Curtis Floyd Clark, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep after a courageous and long battle with Parkinson’s disease with Lewy Body Dementia on July 22nd 2024.
He was born to Jesse Kyle Clark and Betty Ann Clark on September 26 1953. Curtis grew up with two older siblings, Dwayne and Marilyn. He grew up in the small town of Hardtner, Kansas. At the age of 10, he worked in his family service station business where he learned the value of hard work and many mechanical and handyman skills. While attending Hardtner High School, he played on the football team, basketball team, competed on the debate team, sang in the choir and played the trombone in the marching band. He proudly shared his memories of having to rush from the football field during half time to play in the marching band while wearing his football uniform.
Curt earned a bachelors’ degree in Political Science from Northwestern Oklahoma State University. He pursued his graduate degree at the University of Kansas. As a lifelong sports fan, he was thrilled to attend every KU college football and basketball game. While attending University he met a beautiful woman, Kathleen Rome. It was not too long after that he asked Kathleen to spend the rest of her life with him and they were married on August 5th 1978.
They settled in Alva, Oklahoma where Curt launched two oil and gas businesses. Curtis and Kathleen gave birth to two beautiful daughters, Tara Clark, the oldest and Kellie Clark the middle child. After 10 years of living in Oklahoma, they decided to move to Littleton, Colorado where their son Patrick was born. They built their dream home in Highlands Ranch and raised all three children in that home. During this time, he also ran a sound device company. Although he was proud of his businesses, his true devotion was to his family. He provided numerous opportunities including education, sports, dance, gymnastics, traveling and studying abroad.
On weekends you could find Curt attending a Broncos, Nuggets, Rockies or Avalanche game. He never passed up an opportunity to water ski or snow ski. He was very proud to have hiked 25 -fourteeners, and many thirteeners, mostly with his son Patrick, as well as snow shoeing hut to huts and camping. Vacations were a special time where Curt thrived being an adventurous spirit. He loved jumping off of waterfalls, scuba diving, boating, boogie boarding and driving through the Costa Rican jungle. It was typical to see him mixing with the locals during his travels and by the end of the night, would know the name of everyone in the Irish Pub or on the Costa Rican catamaran.
Curt didn’t like seeking awards and accolades. He preferred to keep his generosity private. He was upset when the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alva, Oklahoma put a plaque on the wall honoring him and his wife for donating the proceeds of the sale of their home to the church, allowing them to add a wing to the church home. He preferred acts of kindness, helping friends with handyman or yard jobs, shoveling the snow, fixing a car problem, pulling busses out of the snow with his Hummer or sneaking several bills into someone’s hands knowing that they were driving cross country with only a few dollars in their pockets.
Curt is survived by his wife Kathleen of 45 years, his three children, Tara Bowman, her husband Levi and their two sons, Paxton and Chase, Kellie Shopneck, her husband Andy and their three children, Brooke, Blake and Hunter and Curt’s youngest child Patrick Clark. His brother Dwayne Clark, and his wife Cathy and their children Casie (Clark) Esbaugh and her husband Sean and their youngest son Kyle, as well as 21 other nieces and nephews, 17 great nieces and nephews and 3 on the way.
Curt’s extraordinary ability to live life to the fullest had a significant affect on all that knew him. We will miss you Curt.
