Curtis Edward Wilcox, born January 12, 1962, passed from this earth on January 23, 2025, at the age of 63 as a result of a severe head injury from falling down the stairs at home. Curtis’s initials were CEW and he often teased that his Moma named him Sue. Curtis was born in Florida and at age 2, his parents moved to Louisiana where Curtis grew up in Slidell, Louisiana.
Curtis lived in Littleton Colorado for the last 34 years with his wife, Robin, of 41+ years, their son, Kyle, and two grand dogs. Even though he lived in Colorado, a part of his heart was always in Louisiana. Curtis met his wife Robin at the Delchamps grocery store in Hammond, Louisiana. He went through her checkout line introducing himself with a Ziggy greeting card asking for her phone number. She gave it to him the next time he came through her line, and they went on their first date in August 1982. They were married on October 15, 1983, which is the “Sweetest Day of the Year” according to Hallmark Calendars.
After attending college for a short time and unemployment in Louisiana, following in his dad’s footsteps he decided to join the military. His dad was Air Force so being different joined the Navy. The Navy better suited Curtis as he loved the water. The Navy provided a steady income, job training and the GI bill that he was able to utilize later in life. He served 3 years active duty, 3 years active Reserve and 2 years inactive Reserve. His rate was Dental Technician with the CB’s which is the Construction Battalion. His next assignment was to cross train as a Field Medic with the Marines. He always had fun saying he joined the Navy, was never on a ship, but flew everywhere with the CB’s and got to play with the Marines. During his active time, he went to Guam and Puerto Rico for 7 months each. While in Puerto Rico, Curtis was instrumental in saving a fellow Navy man’s life. With Curtis’s quick actions and training, the fellow Navy man lived and regained 75% use of his arm after nearly severing it through a plate glass window. For this action, Curtis received an Accommodation Medal for his action. This is just one act that showed what a caring and compassionate person Curtis was. It also showed a strength of being able to critically think and act in difficult situations while maintaining control of the situation.
After the time in the Navy and Reserves, Curtis and Robin started a family with the birth of their only child, Kyle. Curtis and Robin moved from Louisiana to Colorado just before Kyle’s birth as he had found employment in Denver with Robin’s brother as a salesman for Artistic Ornamental Iron. After working there for a while, he put the GI bill to work, getting a 2 year Associate Degree from Colorado Technical College then a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Colorado Christian University in Computer Information Systems Management. This started his career of over 20 years in the IT industry and opened multiple opportunities for him.
Most of Curtis’s life, he lived and loved life to its fullest. He loved spending time with family, friends, or strangers. He could talk to anyone and make them feel like lifelong friends in just a few minutes. He had a big heart and was always willing to help others. Two of his spiritual gifts were compassion and empathy. He was very compassionate, especially for the elderly. He also enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, gardening, and sports—a VERY big sports fan of the New Orleans teams then the Denver teams. Being the extrovert he was, a leadership role came naturally for Curtis.
Curtis was preceded in death by his Mom, Maxine (Cromartie) Wilcox (2007), his Dad, Alfred Wilcox (2010), sister Karen (Wilcox) Geeck (2011), and half-sister Lynda (Wilcox) Cope (unknown). It was a difficult transition for Curtis with the loss of his beloved parents and sister, Karen, within such a few short years. Also preceding Curtis were his fathers-in-law, Frank Morgan and Jay Daniel, and brother-in-law, Don Geeck. Curtis is survived by his beloved wife, Robin, their son, Kyle, and their niece Nicole (Geeck) Seals and her family as well as many other family members on Robin’s side.
In memory of Curtis, if you have a dependency or addiction, please know that many people love you and please seek assistance to overcome that dependency or addiction. Life is already too short!
A funeral service for Curtis will be held Friday, February 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM followed by a committal service at 12:00 PM at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary and Cemetery.
