Cylus Kade Gamel—a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend—passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the tender age of 10 in Aurora, Colorado, his lifelong home. Though Cylus’s time on earth was limited, his passion for life and his fearlessness were not. He grew up surrounded by love, under the wing of his only earthly sibling, his big brother Greyson, whom he adored more than life, alongside his treasured pet cats & devoted parents, who knew from the beginning that he was the missing piece of their family.
Diagnosed with autism in 2021, nothing ever hindered Cylus’s drive to succeed in everything he set his mind to. He loved going to therapy and school, and his magnetic personality forged deep connections with all who crossed his path. Cylus embraced significant challenges but still spent his time indulging in movie binges with his family, building immersive worlds on Minecraft, constructing LEGO masterpieces, creative drawing, collecting cars, and playing on his tablet—but most of all, he loved playing his VR, where his natural talent shined.
He was also drawn to the outdoors and found joy in adventures like hiking, vacations, walks, adventure parks, paddleboarding, and trips to the lake or pool, his favorite being a cruise. No matter where he was, as long as he was with his family, he was happy.
Cylus was nearing the end of his third-grade year at Meadow Point Elementary when his life took an unexpected turn. In March 2025, his family was blindsided by the diagnosis of high-risk neuroblastoma. Cylus faced this new journey with unwavering bravery and optimism. He fought fire with fire, astonishing all who came to know him with his perseverance. Time and time again, his true warrior spirit revealed itself as he overcame seemingly impossible adversity, both mentally and physically.
Throughout his battle, Cylus’s faith and love for Jesus never faltered. He organically developed a deep relationship with Christ, who carried him through his journey, alongside his parents, brother, countless supporters, classmates, prior teachers, therapists, past & present friends, fellow warriors and his medical team at Children's Hospital Colorado who diligently fought alongside him every step of the way. His resilience and fearless determination inspired thousands, and he fought valiantly against endless opposition without ever losing his zest for life, charisma, sense of humor, or his Christ-like empathy and compassion for others and all living things. Even in the midst of his own physical opposition, he never allowed the chains of cancer to bind him, he fought to zealously to be free.
Cylus possessed a rare gift for making people laugh. His witty storytelling and larger-than-life personality brought joy to everyone around him—gifts that are deeply missed by all who knew him. To know Cylus was to love him.
He is survived by his loving mother and his safe haven, Rachael Williams; his best friend and devoted father, Brandon Gamel; his side kick and adoring brother, Greyson Gamel; his grandmothers, Tamra Williams and Luann Beaudoin; his grandfathers, Ray Williams, Bobby Beaudoin, and Jeff Gamel; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who will carry his light within them forever.
Cylus is preceded in death and welcomed home by his big sister, Scarlett Gamel, who passed away in 2009, his "favorite cat" Nova and many great-grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and courageous friends who were called home before him.
Though we are broken beyond words, we are profoundly grateful for the 10 remarkable years we were given with him—years filled with his vivacious personality, pure spirit, innocent curiosity, captivating smile, contagious laugh, fascinating mind, infectious joy, indomitable willpower, comedic relief, unmatched tenacity, and above all, his spellbinding and ferocious love.
He was, and continues to be, the light of our lives—bringing love, hope, and warmth to all he touches through us. The world is undoubtably dimmer with his absence, but his magnetic energy & undeniable light will inevitably lead us back home to him again.
