Donald Eugene Kellner, 77, was called to his heavenly home on Friday, June 14th, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He is remembered by his wife of 53 years, Joan Kellner; children: Amy Lester (husband, Casey Lester) and Kari Barnett (husband, Andy Barnett); grandchildren: Nicole Lester, Brystol Lester, Chase Lester, Gavin Barnett, and Maitlyn Barnett; and siblings Barbara Kellner and Louis Kellner, Jr.
Don was born in Sedalia, Missouri on June 6, 1947 to Louis and Edith Kellner. At a young age, Don went to live at the Church of God Home for Children, where he met his adoptive mother, Maxine Thompson, who loved and nurtured him from age 13 until her death. Don served in the Army before attending Northwest Bible College where he studied church ministry. After college, while serving in various leadership roles in the church, he met and married the love of his life, Joan Kneedler.
In 1979, Don and Joan moved to Colorado with their young family, and Don continued his 37 year career with FedEx until retiring in 2010. After retirement, Don enjoyed traveling with Joan and their friends throughout the world. In addition, he loved all things sports-related and listening to gospel music and oldies. His family and sharing his love for the Lord were the greatest joys of his life. His witness will carry on in the lives that he touched.
“Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: for we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:7-8 KJVAE
Family and friends will celebrate Don’s life at Highpoint Church, 6450 S. Southlands Parkway, Aurora, CO 80016, on Saturday, July 13th at 9:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Waymaker Initiative at Highpoint Church or The Gideons International.
