Eleanor May Brown Gates passed away on January 8, 2014. Eleanor was born on April 14, 1917 near Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of James O’Rielly Brown and Catherine Handel Brown. She worked for several families in the Madison Wisconsin metro area long before Nanny became a career or word. She always loved the farm and her family and would return every Thursday when she had a break from her job in the city, and would make the most wonderful fudge, and she added peanut butter to her cooking repertoire. In addition to working in the Madison area she was the chief cook and bottle washer at several farms in the area. When working at the farms she would cook, do laundry and swing for dozens of farmhands. Her love of baking and cooking and gardening continued throughout her life. Sunday dinners at her house were very special. After moving to Colorado and meeting Dale, they both worked at Remington Arms, making ammunition for the war effort. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale Gates; six brothers, Charlie, Archie, Ed, Herman and Lyle Brown; three sisters, Lucille Brown, Lee Austin, and Levina Stiegman. She is survived by one sister, Louise Wollin; her son, Kenneth Love; four grandchildren, Julie Love, Jode Love, Andrew Love and Carla Love; and one grandchild, Aubianna Love. She loved to spent time with family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at ten o’clock in the morning at All Souls Catholic Church, 4500 S. Logan St, Englewood, CO 80113.
