I had the pleasure and honor of working with and for Rick when we were assigned to the downtown unit. Very wise and a great man of fairness and yet compassion. This is how I remember Rick. I know he will be missed by many. My condolences to the family.

Rick was one of my FTOs as I learned the ropes of Police Work in Santa Cruz. As such he taught, mentored and molded me into a productive officer. Great guy, and great cop.
My sympathies to the Seily Family for your loss. RIP Rick!

Rick and I worked together at Santa Cruz Police Department. We had many great discussions covering many topics. Rick was a good cop. He was a terrific mentor and trainer. He was a teacher and led by example. I liked Rick. He was not only a good cop, but he was also a hell of a man. Left this world much too early. God bless you, Rick. Rest in peace my friend.

I had the honor and privilege to work on Sgt. Seiley’s team for many shifts. Sgt. Seiley was an incredible, patient mentor with a wealth of knowledge for young patrol officers. He will live on through all the officers that worked for, and were trained by him.

Hello Carol,
I was saddened to hear of Rick's passing. Rick was one of those honestly nice guys. I know we have not spoken in quite awhile, but that has not diminished our friendship , not only with Rick, but you and your entire family.

I spoke with several of the retirees the other day and we reminisced about the fond memories we had working with him. They all send their condolences.

Sisi and I want to express our most sincere condolences to you and your family.
Wishing you the best in these difficult times.

I’m very sad to hear about Ricks’s passing. He was my first FTO in Santa Cruz, and taught me the ropes. My 1st day with him I hit a pigeon and feathers went all over the place. He enjoyed teasing me about that for years!! I have many fond memories of my time with him. RIP Sir

My deepest sympathy,

Sgt Seiley was my friend, mentor and someone I greatly respected. It was always a pleasure to work for him and to have him as my " Vice Presidential " candidate for 2016. Though we didn't get many votes, I know as a team we could have made a huge impact in this country. He made a huge impact on my career and I owe him a debt of gratitude.

I will see you in my next life my friend.

Seiley Family,

Rick was an officer on my night shift at SCPD. He was always Rick Bob to me.
He never lost his composure, his respect, or his home spun humor.
I will miss him. He’s one of the few people who left this world a better place than he found it.
God’s blessings to all of you,
Joe Haebe
