Frederick Oliver Schillinger
May 16, 1923 – September 21, 2010
Fred was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, May 16 1923 to Fred and Anna Schillinger. He passed away peacefully after a 2 day stay in Orchard Park Nursing Home, after a brief fight against spinal bone cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma, their sons and daughter-in-laws, Gary and Debi of Parker, John and Karolyn of Highlands Ranch. He had eight grandchildren, Alise and grandson-in-law Eric, Christopher, Evan, Cory, Ryan, Jerry, Dustin and great-grandson, Deegan. He is also survived by his sister Audrey of Toms River, NJ and brother-in-law, Charles and wife Luz, of Miami, FL.
Before Fred’s retirement from New Jersey Bell Telephone Company in 1985, he was actively involved in the Telephone Pioneers of New Jersey and President of the local chapters, where he volunteered many hours. He also was a master craftsman in carpentry where Fred built his own home in West Orange, New Jersey.
After locating to Colorado, prompted by his two sons, Gary and John, who had attended college, married and started families here. He kept busy in his own home and spent many hours gardening, fixing things, helping neighbors and family with their home projects and especially being a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his cabin in Grand Lake. He enjoyed working on remodeling it and relaxing on the deck he built or by the fires in the evenings. He was a great fan of the Colorado Rockies, Denver Broncos, and his New York Giants and Yankees.
He will be missed by his family and many friends who will remember his warm smile, fun stories and sense of humor. We love you Schill, Dad, and Poppop!
