Frederick Albert Meurer, beloved husband, father, grandfather (Opa, Pop), great grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully December 16, 2025 at the age of 87 in Loveland, CO. He was born in Fredricksburg, TX on December 30, 1937.
After graduating from Texas A&M University in 1959, he began service as an Air Force officer. While stationed in New York, he met and fell in love with Amy Pisani. They were married in 1960. Together, they raised four children and lived in Texas, Okinawa, Washington D.C. and Colorado.
During his almost 21-year career in the Air Force he served in various public affairs management positions, including two years as editor and publisher of Airman Magazine and Director of Public Affairs for Lowry Technical Training Center at Lowry AFB. He served as Information Officer for the 12th Tactical Fighter Wing, Cam Ranh Bay AB, RVN for 1 year, beginning in November 1968. He retired in 1980 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He then enjoyed a second career as public affairs manager for Gulf Oil Company and the Pittsburgh and Midway Coal Mining Company, a division of Chevron Company.
He volunteered for perpetual adoration at St Thomas More Catholic Church for more than 27 years and coordinated it for nine years. He also participated in the STM Voluntary Food Program, collecting food donations for almost 20 years.
Fred’s greatest joy was being a father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and would do anything for them. They have fond memories of cooking animal shaped pancakes with him. He once indulged a grandchild in their desire to fish for koi in a pond at a local office park. (They showed off the “catch”, and the fish were returned to the pond unharmed). He enjoyed people and showed genuine interest in everyone he met. He loved playing games, especially Skip Bo and Dominos and enjoyed participating in a variety of sports, especially softball and golf.
He is survived by his children Lisa Harris and husband John Harris, Michael Meurer and partner Kelly Weber, Andrea Chase and Mark Meurer; his daughter-in-law Sandy Fitzgerald; his grandchildren Jennifer Harris, Zachary Harris, Caitlin Chase, Julia Chase and Cassandra Meurer; his great grandson Theodore Chase-Buckley; his sisters Emily Banks, Susan Meurer and Dotty Duecker.
He was preceded in death by his wife Amy Meurer; parents Henry Meurer and Dora Molberg Meurer; granddaughter Ava Chase and sisters Elizabeth Crenwelge, Helen Teague and Mary Kathleen Meurer.
Those who knew Fred will remember him for his faith, intelligence and quick wit, love for his family and country, enjoyment of people, passion for Texas A&M sports, love for playing games and sense of humor and ability to make everyone feel special. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on through the morals he taught, love he shared and care he bestowed on all he met.
