Gary, Steinie or Grandapa Grandpa was a man who loved his family, all things cars, black labs, the outdoors, boating, and a Proud Veteran.
Gary served in the United States Navy as a 2nd class petty officer and received the National Defense Service Metal for innovations in creating a faster way to fuel aircrafts aboard all naval ships.
His work with mechanics didn't stop with aircrafts. He was a well-respected mechanic and machinist over the years working for Ford and was a crew chief for several different race teams. He had several classic cars that he built or restored himself. Most recently a 1941 Willys Truck. He also has a 1923 Ford T-Bucket and a 1972 Ford Torino.
Gary made sure to share his passion with this family. He loved the outdoors and boating. His fondest family memories were the family water ski trips he went on with his brother, nephews and daughters. Nascar was another love that was shared with grandsons.
The name Snoopy has a special place in Gary's heart. Gary loves black labs and naming each of his black labs Snoopy with his last dog, Snoopy 4, truly missing him.
Gary is survived by his daughters and son-in-laws, Miranda and Don Cullen and Danielle and Doug Rowe; grandchildren Reagan Cullen, Brianna Rowe, Jonah Cullen, Lily Rowe, and Justin Rowe; brother Bob Steinhoff and nephews, and friends, especially from the VVA- an amazing group of folks!
Contributions in Gary's memory may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America, see link below.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.olingerchapelhill.com for the Steinhoff family.
