Ken was born on March 15, 1923 in Del Norte, Colorado to Stanley and Thelma. He graduated from Sargent High School in 1941 and immediately enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served in the South Pacific during World War II in the First Marine Division, First Amphibian Tractor Battalion, being honorably discharged in 1946. Ken then pursued his education at Purdue University, graduating in 1948 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He began his 40 year career working at Colorado Central Power Company, followed by Public Service Company of Colorado, retiring as Vice-President of Electrical Engineering and Planning in 1988.
He married Janice Ann Vitullo on March 16, 1951. Beginning in 1953 and continuing over the next eight years, the couple welcomed three children into their home and Jan and Ken set about teaching them love, integrity, and honesty. Ken’s favorite advice to his children and grandchildren was that Please, Thank-You and I Love You are the most important words in the English Language, and to live by the Golden Rule, treating others as you would like to be treated. His children remember him as a loving, loyal, fun, hard-working father who encouraged them to be the same. Although his family will miss him greatly, they share countless wonderful family memories and rejoice in his wonderful life.
“He didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.”
Ken preferred that no services be held in his honor.
