Janice Ioma Rickard

Janice Ioma Rickard was born on January 13, 1945 in Englehard, NC to the late Thomas Rickard and Annie May Rickard. Janice departed this life peacefully on August 1, 2020 at 5:51 PM Mountain Time.

Janice’s first passion was her family and friends. She was protective of those she loved and gave unconditional love. Janice also loved her job at the U.S. Postal Service where she worked for 47 years. She received awards for service and made many dear friends. Before she injured her wrist, you would have most likely seen her at the bowling alley in her spare time, she was in several leagues and enjoyed many vacations while participating in tournaments. Another hobby was gardening, she loved to grow plants and take care of them. Janice had a hope that there would someday be a cure for cancer and seizures, she wanted suffering for others to end, that’s the person she was and why she was so loved.

Janice leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Haywood McDowell Jr, Thomas K. McDowell and Rachel M. McDowell. Her grandchildren, Thomas McDowell Jr, Dalonte Thomas, Chelisa McDowell, Eunika McDowell, Evan McDowell, Darnell McDowell, Melissa McDowell, Haywood A. McDowell and Camille McDowell. Her great grandchildren, Jayda McDowell, Jaleah Thomas, Thomas McDowell III, Kendalynn McDowell, Taylyn McDowell, Savannah McDowell and JaLonnah Thomas. Her brother and sisters, Charlie James Rickard, Hilda Williams, Gladyes Rickard, Goldie Toppins and Joan Rickard. Her daughters-in law, Lisa McDowell and Dawn McDowell. She also leaves behind many other cherished family and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Mount Pilgram Church of Christ HWY 264 Englehard N.C. 33469. The services will start at 1p.m. eastern.
