John E. Battershell

John Edwin Battershell of Centennial, CO, formerly of Robinson, IL passed away June 29, 2017 at 6:55 a.m. in the comfort of his home. John was born August 31, 1931 to Ethel (Stifle) and Cecil "Dick" Battershell. He lived on a small farm 5 miles from Robinson, attending Jones School 1/2 mile from his home. He also attended Bible Chapel Church on the same ground. He graduated from Robinson High School with the class of 1949, working locally until he joined the Navy in 1951 during the Korean War and served aboard the USS Bryce Canton AD-36 and the USS Wren DD568. Upon discharge from the Navy he attended U of I at Urbana Champaign where he received his Bachelors of Science in Management . He completed courses for a Masters in Management at the U of I, Memphis, Tulsa & Bowling Green University Ohio. He was employed by Kimberly-Clark in WI and TN. and the Ohio Oil Company in Findlay, OH, later known as the Marathon Oil Company, for 29 years. Moving several places and ending in CO, where he retired. He had been a committed jogger and enjoyed running in many local 10K's. The year of his retirement from Marathon he ran the Hawaiian Marathon. He took up skiing at an older age and enjoyed it very much. Also crewing for friends with a Hot Air Balloon was a Saturday morning get together. John also became an avid Broncos football fan and served as President of the Denver Broncos Quarterback Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Charles and Frank and sister-in-law, Lena. He married Carole Evans August 1, 1951. They have been married 65 years. They have two children, Gregory of Angel Fire, NM and Kathy Tate of Norwich CT; twin grandsons, William of Norwich, CT and Eric-John and wife Emily of Tucson, AZ. John was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Highlands Ranch, CO. John was a devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Funeral Service to be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, with Visitation one hour prior from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. A Celebration of Life reception will follow at 3:00 pm at the funeral home. Committal Service to be held at 12:00 pm, Monday, July 17, 2017 at Fort Logan National Cemetery - Staging Area "A", 4400 W Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO 80203
