Devoted Father, Avid Outdoorsman, Master of the Perfect Cast, Krag McKay, passed away peacefully surrounded by love and legacy on July 16, 2025. He was the kind of man who could swing a bat, manage a job site, and land a rainbow trout—all with the same quiet confidence and deep passion.
A proud graduate of Fountain-Fort Carson High School, Krag was a fierce competitor both on the baseball diamond and the football field. Sports weren’t just something he played; they were part of his DNA. That fire stayed with him, showing up later in life on softball fields, in cheering sections for the Denver Broncos, and in his unwavering love for Colorado teams—especially when they were winning.
Professionally, Krag built a remarkable 35-year career in asbestos abatement. Starting at the ground level as a laborer, he climbed through the ranks with grit and tenacity, eventually becoming a respected Senior Estimator and Project Manager. He earned his place not just through skill, but through integrity—always the first to show up, the last to leave, and the guy who had everyone’s back.
But if you really wanted to find Krag, you had to head for the mountains. A true outdoorsman, Krag was never happier than when he was near water with a rod in hand. Fishing wasn’t a hobby—it was his heartbeat. Whether it was a five-minute break or a full weekend trip, Krag found peace in every cast and joy in every catch. He was the kind of fisherman who didn’t need to talk much; the river did the talking for him.
Krag’s greatest pride, however, was not found on a field, in a boat, or behind a desk—it was his family. He was a deeply devoted father to his son, Dylan, and poured his heart into fatherhood every single day. Becoming a grandfather to Zane McKay on March 9, 2023, brought Krag a joy so profound it lit him from the inside out. He cherished every laugh, every snuggle, and every moment with Zane like it was a rare trophy catch.
Krag also shared nearly three decades of love and laughter with his life partner, Colleen Breska. Together, they built a life rooted in the outdoors—fishing, gardening, BBQing, and simply being each other’s favorite companion. Their bond was one of deep affection, silly humor, and an unspoken understanding only true soulmates share.
Family was Krag’s compass. He is survived by his beloved father Bobby McKay; son Dylan McKay; cherished grandson Zane McKay; daughter-in-law Jessica McKay; sisters Karla Proffit, Karrie Youngblood, and Kim McKay; life partner, Colleen Breska as well as a proud tribe of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his dear mother, Maxine McKay.
Krag’s life was built on love, loyalty, laughter—and just a bit of fishing line. He will be missed more than words can cast.
A memorial service for Krag will be held Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 2:00 PM followed by a reception from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 6601 South Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121.
