Leonard Dan DuFauchard Sr., 83, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. With his family by his side, he spent his final days sharing stories and memories of a full and wonderful life.
Leonard was born on May 21, 1938 to Paul and Anita DuFauchard in Chicago, Illinois, younger brother to Muriel Hatchett, Pauline Williams and Preston DuFauchard. Growing up, he enjoyed playing basketball and spending time with many childhood friends. He graduated high school in 1957 and shortly thereafter, began his lifelong career at Western Electric/AT&T.
On February 15, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Nellie Stratton. In the years to come, he would welcome five children, sons/daughters-in-law, and six grandchildren. He spent his life supporting them in every way possible, from attending sporting events and school functions to helping with DIY home projects. It didn't matter the event; Leonard showed up, gave it his all and walked away with a story to tell.
Leonard was an avid golfer. He enjoyed playing golf throughout the year at all the beautiful courses in Colorado as well as golf trips with buddies outside the state. He also loved travel, including many trips throughout the United States and Europe. In his later years, going “up the hill,” listening to music and spending time with family and friends closer to home gave him the most joy. He was an entertaining storyteller and those that were fortunate enough to be around when Leonard starting talking always knew they were in for a treat. His stories were amazing, but his loud, contagious laugh and his “delivery” of the tale was the real gift. Leonard's generosity was abounding as well, often opening up his home to relatives and friends, including his nephew, Preston DuFauchard, who lived there while he went to school.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Anita DuFauchard; by his sister, Pauline Williams; and by his brother, Preston DuFauchard. He is survived by his wife, Nellie DuFauchard; by his sister, Muriel Hatchett; and by his five children: Leonard (Rachel Ezell) DuFauchard, Cynthia DuFauchard, Linda (Scott) Litvan, Michael DuFauchard and Stephen (Janey) DuFauchard. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Maya, Griffin and Trey DuFauchard; Conner Litvan; and Benjamin and Jackson DuFauchard; and by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Leonard's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
