

Leonard Edwin Hadley was born February 27, 1934 in Denver Colorado to Joseph L and Thelma (Renner) Hadley. He passed away September 17, 2014 peacefully in his sleep while vacationing in Cape Cod, MA. He was a life/long resident of Littleton/Englewood. He was a third generation Coloradan & the proud bearer of the Colorado Pioneer license plate.
In 1939 Leonard contracted meningitis and spent 5 weeks in Denver Children's Hospital. A life-saving serum was flown from Chicago, he was the second person in the nation to receive the miracle drug (penicillin). After recovery, he had severe hearing loss; eyes had to be retrained & therapy to walk again. Doctors told his parent he would be unable to run a straight line, or play sports. With great effort he proved them wrong.
Leonard was one of the 93 members of the Class of 1953 - Littleton High School; actively participated in all sports & received the honor of All State & All Conference (1952) in football.
Leonard retired in 1996 (37 yrs) as Dist. Supervisor in the Transmission & Distribution Div of the Denver Water Dept.
He loved his family, travel, gardening, card games, Broncos! Was a long time member of the Club 50 of Brunswick Zone (Green Mtn) Bowlers.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley; his son Darren (Lisa) of Centennial; son LeMoine (Ruth) and granddaughter Shellie Hadley of Highlands Ranch.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his Hadley cousins Bob and Gene of Loveland; John of Skamania, WA and Linda of Vancouver, WA. Also many special alumni friends.
The following friends of Leonard's will serve as pallbearers: Robert Allen, Louie Harding, Allen Hower, Bill Hultz, Art Risley, Jack Whiting, Glenn Shepard, Garry Hadley, Bill Graves, Bill Richmond, Hank Taylor, Armando Ortiz.
Memorials are preferred (in Leonard's name) to the Littleton Museum, 6028 S. Gallup St. Littleton Colorado 80120.
Friends and family may call at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 South Colorado Boulevard in Centennial on Sunday September 28 from 2:00-4:00pm. A funeral will be held at the mortuary on Monday, September 29 at 11:00am. Burial will follow in the adjacent cemetery.
