Lois started teaching at Mowrey School in Ann Arbor. It was a one room schoolhouse, and she taught all 8 grades. During this time, their first child, Julie, was born.
Dick was transferred to South Haven where their sons, Peter and Michael were born. Lois continued teaching and attending college. She graduated from Western Michigan with a BA in Education. Both she and Dick said this was the best place they ever lived.
