She was born to Nellie Mae Clemens and Arthur Thomas Kirklin in a small house in Englewood on December 21, 1928. Her parents divorced when she was quite young and although she was always surrounded by love, she depended upon her Grandpa Jo, Uncle Jessie and Aunt Ida to provide stability thru her formative years. She also had two half sisters, Rita Carter and Karen Sue Kirklin.
She married Wallace “Bud” Hollberg in 1949. Shortly afterwards they bought a dilapidated abandoned greenhouse. They moved into a one room living room/bedroom/grading room in the greenhouse while they rebuilt and planted their first crops of carnations. During this time they also welcomed into the world their four daughters, Lorie Mae, Sandra Lane, Christine and Debra Jean, all sharing the same one room.
Eventually they sold the property and built a state-of-the-art fiberglass carnation greenhouse in Parker with a beautiful custom home which was their dream. They lived there many years, traveling through Europe, Mexico and across the United States. Eventually the economic market changed, forcing them to move to Castle Rock where they lived a quieter life.
Throughout her life Lorana loved playing games, she was extremely competitive with bowling and playing rummy. She was extremely lucky as well!
At around 60 she began experiencing physical issues involving her legs and hips. Though it was often very painful, she continued to work at the Denver Temple for many years. Her church and faith were a keystone throughout her life.
Her husband passed away in 2013 leaving her care to her family. She began painting once again and developed her talent while creating some beautiful pictures which she loved sharing. In 2020 she was moved to Bonaventure due to her dementia where she passed on Tuesday, October 24, 2022.
The constant throughout her life was her faith and church. She knew she would one day be reunited with her husband and daughters, Lorie Mae and Sandra Lane who predeceased her as well as her dear Grandpa Joe, Uncle Jess and Aunt Ida. She is survived by her sisters, two daughters, Christine and Debra, 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.olingerchapelhill.com for the Hollberg family.
