She was the cherished daughter of Myrtle and Clifford Ory and grew up in New Orleans, where she spent her childhood swimming, practicing ballet, and tap dancing alongside her beloved sister, Evelyn.
A woman of intellect, determination, and quiet strength, Lorraine earned her bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Orleans—a remarkable achievement and a point of great pride throughout her life. It was at church that she met the love of her life, Michael Streeb, beginning a partnership rooted in faith and mutual devotion. They married on October 3, 1981, and soon after moved to Houston, where they built a beautiful life together.
Lorraine dedicated more than 25 years of her career to Fluor Daniel, where she was respected for her work ethic, sharp mind, and unwavering professionalism. In 2000, guided by their shared desire to serve others, Lorraine and Michael founded God’s Garden, a nonprofit community garden with the mission of providing fresh vegetables to underserved neighborhoods. Their efforts touched countless lives and earned community recognition throughout the years—a legacy of generosity that continues to grow.
Outside of her service and career, Lorraine embraced many passions. She loved baking traditional German cookies for Michael, capturing the beauty of everyday moments through photography, caring for her treasured cats, Shiloh and Buddy, and creating crocheted baby blankets for her great nieces and nephews. She especially adored road trips with her husband, exploring the open roads and hidden gems of Texas together.
Lorraine’s faith in Jesus was the foundation of her life, guiding her actions, her compassion, and her steadfast heart.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael Streeb; her sister Evelyn (David) Thibaudeau; her brothers-in-law Steven (Melinda) Streeb and Les (Jane) Streeb; her precious cats, Shiloh and Buddy; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will forever hold her memory close.
Lorraine’s life was one of service, creativity, kindness, and deep love. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her giving heart, and the quiet, steady ways she made the world better.
May she rest in eternal peace.
