
Passed away in Englewood, CO on Feb. 25, 2011 from complications related to pneumonia. He was born in Maryville, MO on Feb. 10, 1918. He is survived by his beloved wife of seven years, Betty; his brother, Robert Saunders of Gridley, CA and sister, Bessie Roath of Fredericksburg, VA; daughters, Betty Hettwer of Phelps, WI and Connie McKenna of Colorado Springs, CO; stepdaughters, Nancy Crandall of Littleton, CO and Susan Downing of Golden, CO; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Orrie was preceded in death by his sister, Edna McAlister and his first wife, Ruth Ethel Saunders, to whom he was married for 58 years. He was a WWII veteran serving in 1944-1946. Orrie retired in 1979 from Mountain Bell (later, AT&T) after working 35 years. He was active in the Englewood community, serving on the City Council and honored as its Citizen of the Year in 2005. Orrie was an instructor for Dale Carnegie and former president of the Englewood Lion's Club. He spent countless hours visiting cancer patients and others in the hospital. Orrie was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a good neighbor and loyal friend to many. He was a long-time dedicated member of the Englewood Bible Church where he taught Sunday School, sponsored youth programs, supported mission outreaches and served on the Elder Board. A memorial service will be held on Fri., April 1 at Englewood Bible Church, 3190 S. Grant St, Englewood, CO 80113 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Englewood Bible Church-Missions Program.
