Pamela Kathleen Schakel Munyon came into this world on July 14th, 1946. She was warmly greeted by her parents John and Mary Schakel and her five siblings, Joyce, Richard, Anna, Edie, and Gary. Little did they know the joy Pammy would bring to their family. When Pam was 3 1/2 years old there was another addition, Myrna, who became Pam’s little shadow and constant companion. Growing up Pam loved being “Auntie” to her many nieces and nephews. As much as she loved her big family, she fell in love with God even more and was devoted to nurturing a relationship with her heavenly Father. This led her to a life of Christian service as a Sunday School teacher, camp counselor, and youth leader. After graduating from Sheridan High School in 1964, Pam went to cosmetology school and got her certification as a beautician, which led her to a career that would span 47 plus years.
About that same time Englewood Assembly of God welcomed a new pastor. Stanley Munyon, his wife Esther, and three boys, Stephen, Timothy, and James. Steve and Pam’s friendship blossomed over many months and in February 1970 he proposed. The two became husband and wife on September 19, 1970.
Pam’s faith was matched by her warmth and generosity, qualities that naturally drew people to her. She was always there to oer encouragement and give you a hug when you needed it most. Pam treasured family and kept up with what was happening in everyone’s lives from the youngest to the oldest. She became a loving caregiver to her mother, Mary, until she passed.
Along with their fur babies, Abby and Jethro, Pam and Steve made their home in Littleton, Colorado and attended Family Worship Center in Centennial. When Steve’s health declined, Pam’s devotion never wavered; she cared for him with patience and grace. Even as her own health began to fail, she continued to inspire those around her with her unwavering faith, humor, and hope. Pam and Steve traveled life’s journey together until Stephen was called home days before their 52nd wedding anniversary in September 2022.
Health issues meant Pam would have to give up the home she’d shared with Steve for most of their married life. She often talked about how much she wanted to be home with family. On August 18th, 2025, Pamela got to take that final journey to be reunited with Steve, her parents, grandparents, and four of her siblings. She left behind two sisters, Anna Shelton and Myrna Stacy, Myrna’s husband Roger Stacy, a sister-in-law Diane Schakel, brother and sister-in-law Tim and Dee Munyon, brother-in-law James Munyon, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins. While we grieve her loss, we’re sure there’s a party going on in heaven and all the people who arrived before her and whose lives she touched are celebrating her arrival. Pammy, you made it home!
Although Pam’s gentle way and loving smile were often lost to us in her last days, let’s remember her unwavering commitment to faith and family. Her legacy endures in the memories she created, the lives she touched, and the example she set. As we move forward, inspired by her steadfast love, it is with gratitude that we carry her story with us, cherishing the lessons she imparted and the joy she brought into our lives.
Pamela Kathleen Munyon: daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.
