He was born the late Richard Sr. and Helen Payne. He was one of three children for the Payne family who grew up in the Denver Metro area.
After high school, Richard joined the Navy and serviced for 3 years before transitioning to the Navy Reserves and going to College at Red Rocks in Golden. That is where he would met his future wife, Viann and they would marry on August 4, 1973. Together they spent 49 glorious year together living in Jefferson County.
Richard worked for Jefferson County School District for 28 years before retiring and also was in the National Guard for a little 8 years.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents Richard Sr., and Helen Mudd and brother, Mitch Payne.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Viann Payne; sister Trudy (John) Heilema; brothers-in-law Clayton (Heather) Hebb and Shannon (Judy) Hebb; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
