He grew up with his older brother, Charles, in Farmington, often working in his dad’s grocery store and later in the oil fields. He was an integral part of the 1952 state championship high school football team and went on to play football at the University of New Mexico where he received his degree in Business. A highlight was organizing several events for World Youth Day with Pope John Paul II that was held in Denver during August 1993.
In 1960, Bob married Barbara (Bobbie) tenHope, and together they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on family, their Catholic faith, and concern for others.
Bob had a passion for sports including coaching his sons’ soccer and baseball teams and attending all of his children’s various sporting events. Lovingly called Pop by his grandchildren, he enjoyed keeping up with all of their activities. He was so proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments.
Bob followed the Broncos, Nuggets, and Rockies with great interest through the ups and downs of every season. He was a voracious reader of both fiction and nonfiction. In his retirement, he found enjoyment in playing golf, especially with his children.
