Bob was born July 3, 1926, to John Wesley and Dorothy Merle Engel in Douglas County, Colorado. Bob was the first born, followed by one sister and four brothers. Only three of the brothers are still with us.
Months after the end of WWII, Bob married the love of his life, Betty Hildred Engel (deceased). Together they had one daughter and one son. Later he married Myrna C. Engel (deceased) with whom he lived most of his senior years.
He is survived by his daughter Lois M. Jaksch and son Douglas A. Engel, three granddaughters, one grandson, two great granddaughters, two great grandsons and one great, great grandson.
Bob attended Douglas County schools but graduated from Englewood High School in 1944. Because of World War II and Bob’s desire to serve his country, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps soon after graduation. He completed army infantry training and was deployed to the Philippines, ostensibly in preparation for the invasion of Japan. The troop transport ship with Bob aboard had been steaming across the Pacific for four days when the Japanese surrender was announced. He continued his military service in the Philippine Islands until his honorable discharge in November 1946.
A self-made man, Bob was self-employed most of his adult life. His was the life of a true craftsman. He could make or repair almost anything, from home remodeling projects to beautiful woodcraft. He converted his truck to use gasoline or propane as fuel, contrary to what others said was possible.
With strong faith and love of God, Bob will join his parents and loved ones in their heavenly home. God speed, dear Brother. – Charles Rodney Engel
