Ron Cunningham, age 70, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, 2024 at his home with his wife by his side. He was born in 1953 in San Antonio, Texas to Joseph and Dorothy (Grundy) Cunningham. The military life moved the family to Germany, then back to the states when his father passed away in 1958 at Walter Reed Army Hospital. He settled with his mother and brother in West Miami, Florida. Growing up there, he met lifelong friends and enjoyed fishing in the Everglades and the Keys, playing Jai Alai, and going to the races at Sebring. Ron was a graduate of the University of Florida in Gainesville, again making enduring friendships. Ron married the love of his life, Mary Metzger, in Coral Gables, Florida in 1987.
Ron wore many hats during his professional career: Producer/Director at Channel 12 WPEC in West Palm Beach and Channel 10 WPLG in Miami, where he met his wife. A move to join the Dallas Cowboys Lone Star network in 1990 brought him to Dallas, Texas. One year later, his daughter, Jennifer, was born. His career then changed to Corporate Communications for The National Athletic Trainers Association and American College of Emergency Physicians. Then a move to Denver working for EM Care and Envision Healthcare.
Ron enjoyed cycling, fly fishing, golfing, travel, and spending time with family. He was always reading something. Travel took him to Australia, Europe, Bermuda, Mexico, the US Virgin Islands, Hawaii, and exotic Cleveland. He was a loving husband and father; as well as a good friend, true gentleman, talented and thoughtful.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Dorothy; his brother, Danny; his niece, Hannah Crosbie Metzger; and his brother-in-law, Peter Bierstaker. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and daughter, Jennifer, as well as extended family in California, Florida, North Carolina, and Ohio.
