Sammie Young was born Sammie Lee Sellers on September 5, 1936, to Toney Myrle and Lottie Sellers. She went home to be with Jesus on December 27, 2025 at the age of 89. She lived a full happy life with many family members and friends and will be missed by all.
As a young child, she spent her days on dairy farms with her parents in Walden and Meeker, Colorado as her father managed the milking of the cows and delivery of the milk to the towns while her mother cooked meals for all the ranch hands. The family later moved to west Denver where she made life-long friends with other kids in her neighborhood. At the age of twelve, she went to live with her father's sister Hazel Robinson and her husband Ernest Robinson in east Denver, where she attended and graduated from East High School. She was briefly married to her first husband Wally and they had son Robert in 1956. She later met her soulmate Allen Young and they married in June 1959. They had another son Mark in April 1960 and daughter Christina in November 1961. They raised their family in Littleton, Colorado where they made life-long friends in their little neighborhoods of Happy Homes and Hillside Manor.
Sammie raised her three children while also working at Mountain Bell as a telephone operator, as well as selling Avon and Tupperware. When the children were a little older, she began her career in Real Estate where she sold many houses in the Denver metro area as well as managing the office at Southridge Realty and teaching Real Estate at the affiliated school with childhood friends Pat and Betty Armbrust. She enjoyed working in the Real Estate field for about 40 years. She had fond memories of the many colleagues and clients that she worked with and the students she taught over the years.
Sammie's father was the youngest of nine children, so she had many aunts, uncles, and cousins that meant so much to her. She was also one of five children in her family, so she has many nieces, nephews and extended family that she held dear to her heart. In the year 2000, her husband Allen was united with his daughter from a previous relationship, ,Jowanna Rehberg who had been adopted and Sammie welcomed her and her four children and later four great-grandchildren into the family.
Sammie loved to travel. She and Allen went on many trips to Hawaii, Europe, England, Canada, as well as many cruises. They enjoyed traveling with family as well as going on many road trips to see family in Arizona, California, and Missouri. Sammie loved to welcome visiting family into her home and also loved putting on a big Christmas Eve dinner for all the local family. Her grandsons Josh, Tim, Brian and Brandon all have especially fond memories of Christmas Eve dinners as well as road trips with Mimi and Grandpa, mom Chris and dad Lee, and Brian's daughter Kylie.
Sammie was a very caring and giving person. She had many family members that she became a caregiver for in their time of need. She cared for her aging parents, her Auntie Hazel and Uncle Ernie who helped raise her, younger brother Don in his last days with lung cancer, as well as her beloved husband Allen as he struggled with dementia. They were married 61 years when he passed away with her by his side in 2021.
Sammie was preceded in death by her parents, all of her aunts and uncles, her sister Jean, her brothers John Sellers, Donald Sellers and Frank Sellers, her oldest son Robbie and her beloved husband Allen. Sammie is survived by her son Mark Young, daughter Chris(Lee) Hostetter, grandsons Josh, Tim, Brian and Brandon Hostetter and great-granddaughter Kylie Hostetter. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family, as well as her beloved dog Lady.
As was her wish, no services will be held, and a private internment of her ashes will take place at a later date in the Chapel Hill Garden next to her husband Allen. We believe she is at peace and reunited with all of her loved ones that have gone before her and walking with her Lord Jesus Christ.
