Todd Joseph Gassen, of Parker, Colorado, 62, was a beloved husband, father and brother. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, in the early morning hours on Friday, February 6th, 2026, after a 3 year and 2 month battle with Stage 4 prostate cancer.
Todd was born August 26, 1963 in Saint Joseph, Missouri to Shirley and Don Gassen. Todd was the middle son between Derek and Craig. Todd’s family moved to Aurora, Colorado when he was in elementary school.
Todd was active from a young age with his family. They enjoyed camping, reading and family time. In high school, Todd joined the swim team and swam his entire life, until his illness prevented it. Growing up, Todd, Derek, and Craig had many adventures involving cars, movies and skiing, along with a shared love of movies, reading and comic books. Todd was a voracious reader, he especially loved science fiction.
In his late teens Todd found excitement whitewater kayaking, and became quite proficient at it, mastering the roll. Before he settled on college at CU Denver, Todd had thought about becoming a river guide. After graduation, Todd moved to Grand Junction for his first job, eventually moving back to the Denver metro area. Todd worked in Information Technology his entire life, settling on Network Engineering. He was a Principal Network Engineer at Charter Communications at the time of his passing.
Todd married Nancy Melissa in 1993, after being set up for a date by co-workers in 1991. They had a shared love of the outdoors and outdoor activities. They have 2 children, a daughter Kaylee, and a son, Matthew.
Todd was a loving and supportive husband. He and Nancy shared many adventures together such as skiing, mountain biking, camping, rafting & kayaking, hiking, and later in their marriage, jeeping. Todd’s jeep Big Red was his pride and joy. He loved to work on both his and Nancy’s jeeps in the garage.
Kaylee and Matthew were the light of Todd’s life. He was an exceptional and attentive father, supporting their endeavors and loving them unconditionally, while providing a steady, quiet role model. He was always available for support, advice or just to listen. Todd always put the wellbeing of his family above his own.
Todd was a quiet and private man, he fought bravely and valiantly. Our entire extended Gassen family were amazed by his strength, courage and stoicism in the face of this disease. He never complained, he never gave up, and kept his sense of humor.
Todd was preceded in death by his parents, Don & Shirley Gassen. He is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Kaylee, son Matthew, brothers Derek(Mary Gizzie) and Craig(Tanya LeJuene), 2 nephews and a niece, along with numerous aunts and uncles.
