Susan was born on May 25,1940 to William and Margaret Jackson. As her father served in the US Army, she spent her younger years moving around the U.S. and abroad—including Okinawa, Japan. Later, she came back to the U.S. to finish high school and attend UC Berkeley, majoring in Home Economics. During her college years, she married her husband, Gerald “Jerry” Lee Kirkpatrick, then settled in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she raised a family and managed her teaching career. Her career spanned many years, where she reveled in educating and inspiring both youth and adults, teaching sewing, cooking, English, typing and business skills, as well as psychology and other subjects. Later in life, she and Gerald moved to Colorado to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Susan had a passionate gift for hospitality and loved to entertain guests in her home. She relished time with friends and family alike. Susan and Jerry also loved cats, breeding and raising cats for most of their married lives.
Susan was involved in Christian ministry and local Bible Study Fellowship for over 50 years. Her deep Christian faith inspired devotion and excellence in every aspect of her life. She continually encouraged and inspired others to live by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, His healing power, and hope in eternal life through Him.
Susan is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gerald Lee Kirkpatrick; son, Dennis (Lisa) Kirkpatrick; daughter, Danielle (Jerry) Kistler; cousin, Madeline Gieselman; 2 nephews, Harlow (Liz) Ahlstrom and Eric Ahlstrom; and 7 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret Jackson, and sister, Anne Howell.
The immediate family thanks the extended family and her many friends for their love and support since Susan’s passing.
