Mayda Domenie

Mayda Marie Garabedian Domenie passed away in Essex, CT, December 28, 2025, after a lengthy illness. Mayda was born in Cairo Egypt in 1933, the daughter of Haignoush Melkonian Garabedian and Garabed Garabedan. Mayda was married to beloved husband, Johan (John) Domenie, who predeceased her.

Mayda was educated in Cairo, first at the Kalousdian Armenian School and then earned her degree in Business and American History at St. Mary’s College. Mayda and her family immigrated to the United States in 1964, and in 1967 she moved to New York where she began her lengthy career in international banking with Wells Fargo Bank International. It was there she met John, and they were married in 1974. She retired from banking in 1982 and then opened her yarn shop where she was able to share her hobby with so many. In 1986 she sold The Yarn Shoppe and Mayda and John moved to Naples Fl. They together opened and operated The Image Bank, a stock photography business, until 1994 when they retired.

In retirement, Mayda remained very busy. She and John formed the Armenian-American Cultural Society of SW Florida. They grew the membership to more than 225 Armenian members, regularly hosting various cultural events, dinners and educational events for 16 years. Mayda enjoyed sailing and cruising in the Caribbean where they kept a boat for several years.

Mayda is survived by: her step-children Holly Adams, Douglas (Patrice) Domenie, Mary (Robert) Lloyd; grandchildren Christopher (Joshua) Adams, Mathew Adams, Charles (Trisha) Domenie, Lucy (Dominic) Solari, Henry (Sarah) Domenie, Emilie (Nick) Georges, Andrew (Madeline) Lloyd; great grandchildren Leo, Luca and Olivia Solari, Albert, Logan and Owen Domenie and Grace Georges; sister in-law Liz Garabedian, cousins and nieces. She was predeceased by her stepdaughter Deborah Domenie and her brother Armen Garabedian.

The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the team at Essex Meadows Health Center for their kind and compassionate care towards Maida during her stay.
