Terrance Donald Lomme passed into the loving arms of the Lord on March 3, 2026, and oh how the angels did sing! Terry was born on July 28, 1948, and was raised in Westport, Connecticut. He was the son of the late Donald and Aline Doran Lomme.
Sewing his seeds as a young boy, he and his best friend, Tim, started a water-skiing school teaching young girls how to ski, perhaps the best job of his life! Countless hours were spent tinkering with cars, rebuilding motorcycles and meeting up with friends at the Big Top, the best cheeseburger spot in Westport.
After being stationed at Governor’s Island, serving in the Coast Guard, he attended Eastern Connecticut College, where he met his future wife, Bette. Thus began a beautiful 50 year love story.
Terry graduated from Quinnipiac School of Law in 1980, beginning an impressive 45 year career. He was elected Probate Judge in East Haddam as well as being the first Probate Judge of the 33rd District, where nine towns were consolidated into one district. He served as President of the Middlesex County Bar Association and was a member of the Probate Executive Committee.
Terry loved life and was happiest being with family and friends. He was an excellent storyteller, and how he loved to laugh! He loved all things water, boating on the Connecticut River, breakfast and dinner in Hamburg Cove, and being a member of the Essex Yacht Club. Sunrises and sunsets from the backyard were his favorite times. Vacations in Newport, Block Island and Nantucket were special to him along with cars, parades, and ice cream… always ice cream!
Terry will be remembered for his kind and gentle demeanor, sense of humor, keen intellect, quick wit and ready smile. A lifelong parishioner of Saint Teresa of Calcutta, he served as an Eucharistic Minister and member of the Knights of Columbus. Terry’s faith was central to his life and helped him to navigate his life with cancer. He was ever optimistic and grateful to his wonderful doctors, kind friends, and family.
Terry’s passing leaves an immeasurable void, but his memory will forever live in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him. May he rest in peace. He is survived by his wife, Bette, his brother, Peter, sister in law and husband, Jane and Douglas Anderson, sister in law and husband, Shea and Scott Jezek, and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Donna Maykut.
A funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. March 14, 2026, at St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, 14 Prospect Street, Essex.
