Brian William Bailey, Son of William Henry (Bill) Bailey and Doris Evelyn Harriman, was born on September 23, 1940 in Nottinghamshire, England. Brian would never know his father who was killed in action in World War II at the Battle of Tobruk (now Libya) in December 1941. The two never met. Doris would later marry Bernard Smith. Brian would also be raised with his cousin Susan. They were raised more as brother and sister and became as close as that in life.
From a young age Brian developed a passion for aircraft and was always busy making very detailed plastic models of aircraft, having many hanging from his ceiling on display. As well as planes he enjoyed collecting model trains, a love he enjoyed to the present day. He was always crafty with his hands also making Marquetry (wood) pictures and other wood related craft projects. Brian also had a love for music. He enjoyed a local fan following when he played and sang in his Skiffle group – Brian Bailey and the Comets. Later Brian would also take up photography as a hobby as well.
Brian would later take on an apprenticeship with the famous Rolls Royce company. He would receive his certification by working on many projects involving airplanes and engines. His favorite plane being the Avro Vulcan Bomber. This career path led him to Switzerland to work for Swissair. Brian worked alongside a New Yorker, they became friends. He would eventually take a trip to New York, which would soon become the next place for his career path. His engineering knowledge would soon lead him to work in the entertainment industry working for a company called Magno Sound and Video. Brian would go on to become Chief Engineer and work there for nearly 40 years before retiring in 2009.
Living in New York in the late 1960’s Brian would meet and later marry Maria or Jenny as he liked to call her. They lived in Jackson Heights and would have a single son John William Bailey. Together they loved and lived a happy and full life. Eventually the family would move to parts of Long Island, Hicksville and later Centereach. Unfortunately, after more than 25 years together, Maria Bailey would pass away in November of 2000.
Brian would mourn the loss of his wife, but as life goes on he would later meet Virginia Murillo and they would come to call each other partners. Brian fully enjoyed his years with Virginia and her 3 children – Jeoffrey, Leonora and Ashley. He would love them as if they were his own.
Brian William Bailey passed away on November 17, 2017 from pneumonia and other related complications at Good Samaritan hospital in West Islip NY. Brian is survived by his son John, his love Virginia, her children, several relatives in England and many, many more who knew and loved him. He will be missed terribly and remembered with love forever.
