It has been one of my life's greatest pleasures knowing and loving the Lovegrove family. While attending college with Tommy, I met Tom, his wife Mieko, Uncle Kenny, and Baron. I instantly connected with them all! This family opened their home to me and welcomed me as one of their own. Their home was always filled with much love and laughter.
The Lovegroves embraced me, loved me, and helped me navigate my life away from my home-town and family and to build a life of my own. They may not have known at the time, but they helped teach me responsibility, self-respect, gratitude, and helped me develop my world view. Tommy soon became my brother, Tom and Mieko my surrogate parents, and Uncle Kenny has always been Uncle Kenny to me too. Tom and I connected over wrenches, cars, and mechanics. Mieko fed and mothered me. Uncle Kenny and I shared an interest in art and electronics. This was a magical time in my life because of this special family.
Over time, Tom and I developed a special relationship. The physical miles between us did not seem to matter with him on Long Island and I in Buffalo. Tom was always a phone call away. And even if months had passed since our last conversation, we always picked up immediately where we left off. I turned to him often seeking advice about work, love, and raising a family. He always listened attentively and carefully offered his best advice. I always listened to him. I always followed his advice. I trusted him. He was so much more to me than a trusted friend or a father figure. I realize only now that it is because he is a part of who I became. He is a part of who I am. I will forever be grateful for the time I had with Tommy, Baron, Kenny, and Tom. And I will not forget them.
My thoughts and prayers continue to be with you Mieko. You have been so strong for your family. Know that I love you and that I am here for you. I am still just a phone call away and when you need me, I will be by your side in 10 hours.
