A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Mrs. Anna Mae Dipuma Welborn passed away peacefully at age 90 on Friday, May 5, 2023, surrounded by loved ones at home. She joined the love of her life on his first heavenly birthday, Anna Mae's husband of 70 years gained the most beautiful angel on the occasion.
Anna Mae was born January 20, 1933 in Baton Rouge. Devoted to her studies and student activities, she graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1951. Thanksgiving Day, November 25th, 1951, became an ongoing cause for thanks when Anna Mae first met that love of her life, John Welborn. They were married on April 13, 1952 and began their family soon afterward. Anna Mae was able to concentrate on her family during their early years but later also enjoyed a fulfilling career as a School Crossing Guard commissioned through the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, a post in which she took great pride. She served from 1978 through 2003 and became a trusted and familiar friend to the community.
Her family was always her focus and all who were blessed to know her can attest that her happiest moments were spent among them, sometimes simply visiting or sharing a meal together but at others, sharing her admitted excitement for her favorite pastime: Bingo. Well known and loved among the area halls, she spent many a fun evening, often in the company of John and son Wade, enjoying the game and the company.
Recent years presented more challenges that any one person should be given to Anna Mae, with two major injuries and the loss of her husband and two of her youngest sons. But her overwhelming strength and faith led her to press forward until the time came to receive her heavenly rewards. And for raising children, helping to raise grandchildren, caring for family and ensuring the safety of countless students over the years among many other blessings to others, those rewards have been well earned.
Left to cherish her memory are sons John Coker Welborn, Jr., Doug Welborn and Jimmy Welborn and wife Tammy; grandchildren Erica Welborn Malone and husband Ryan, Lindsey Welborn, Blake Welborn, Skylar Welborn, Colby Welborn and Piper Welborn; great-grandchildren Gabriel Malone, Dulcie Malone, Juniper Malone; sister Betty Hidalgo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Awaiting Anna Mae in Heaven are her husband, John Welborn, Sr., sons, Wade Welborn, Billy Welborn and daughter, Darlene Anne, who was one of triplets born with Billy and Jimmy and began her heavenly journey after only three hours on earth; also preceding her are grandchildren Ryan, Landen and Lauren Welborn; great-grandson Joseph "Little Joe" Malone; her parents, Louis and Agnes Labello Dipuma; brothers Ronnie Dipuma, Lucas J. Dipuma, and Louis Dipuma, Jr. and sisters Rosemary Pourciau, Louise Collins and Katherine Rita Dipuma.
