

Evelyn Butler Kirby a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend passed away on July 21, 2022, at the age of 74 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was a 1966 graduate of Istrouma High School and a resident of Greenwell Springs, Roger, Evelyn's husband of 34 years, built her a beautiful ranch and home where she trained horses in both barrel and pole racing. In her lifetime, Evelyn loved all animals and all animals loved her. She truly enjoyed spending time riding horses with friends and mentoring young riders. Evelyn was a founding member of the Baton Rouge Barrel Racing Association and competed in the National Barrel Horse Association, among others. She has a substantial collection of titles, saddles, and buckles. Thirteen of those saddles Evelyn won with her best friend of 31 years, her championship horse Watch Shu Jack "Joe", whom she raised and trained herself.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Roger Kirby, daughter Brandie Cassels and son Dallas Bird, grandson Cody Cassels, siblings Russell Butler Jr. (Ginger), and sister Vickie Seal (Johnnie). She was proceeded in death by her son Brian Joseph Perry, father Eugene Russell Butler Sr, mother Betty Alexander Babin and stepfather Leslie Louis Babin. Evelyn's family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. Sanjay Juneja and the staff of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center for their support and the love they shared.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 from 6pm – 8:30pm at Central Funeral Home. Visitation will resume on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church from 9:30 am- 11 am with the Mass of Christian burial beginning at 11 am.
Interment will immediately follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Jefferson Hwy.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center or the Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge.
