Ruby Pace Bernard, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on September 8, 2024, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at the age of 97. Born on December 18, 1926, in Clarence, Louisiana, she was a cherished member of the community and a devoted healthcare professional.
Ruby dedicated 68 years to nursing, having started her career after graduating from Schumpert Sanitarium in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1947. She retired from Stanocola Medical Center in 1994, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and commitment to her patients.
Outside of her professional life, Ruby was an avid gardener, finding joy in the growth and bloom of her plants. A joy she shared with everyone around her.
Ruby is survived by her daughter Shauna Sims and husband Eugene Sims, Jr.; grandchildren, Kevin Jarreau and wife Jennifer, Cory Jarreau and wife Katie, Damon Sims and wife Shelli, Tessa Mahler and husband David, Chase Sims and wife Chastity; along with 12 beautiful great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Josephine Pace; her husband, Lester Jay Bernard; her son Larry Bernard and daughter Dana Jarreau.
Services will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, with visitation at 10:00 am until Memorial Services at 11:00 am. Central Funeral Home at 9995 Hooper Road, Central, Louisiana, is assisting the family with arrangements. Ruby's long life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew her, and her impact will continue to be felt by all the lives she touched.
