

Danny Ronald Mitchem was a modest man, quiet and observant in his ways. He was trustworthy and traditional in his approach to his life and in his relationships. He was tough-minded with the kind of “stick to it” attitude that earned the respect of all who knew him. Realistic about life, he was always at the ready, prepared to take on responsibility.
Danny was born on May 23, 1951 at Morton General Hospital in Morton, Washington. His parents were William "Bump" and Margaret Mitchem. Danny was raised in Mossyrock, Washington with 3 siblings, brothers Doug Mitchem and Gary Mitchem, and sister Judy Bridges.
He took part in football, basketball, baseball, and track. In high school, Danny was a 4 year letterman in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He graduated from Mossyrock High School in 1969. Even into adulthood, he took pleasure in recreational sports mostly softball. He would take every opportunity he could to watch sporting events favoring the Seattle Seahawks and the Mariners as well.
Danny greatly enjoyed what he did for a living. He was a hard worker, his primary occupation was Caretaker/Manager at Leisure Time Campgrounds. Danny worked hard to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Danny was an H&HS Co 509th RR from Nov. 1969 - Jun. 1972. Danny saw action for Vietnam Campaign. Through his hard work and dedication, he achieved the rank of E5 Sergeant. He received praise for his valor, including being awarded Bronze Star, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal.
He liked to experience things first-hand as well as learn about them. Since he enjoyed his private time, Danny always tried to allocate a specific time for working on his hobbies. His favorite pursuits were watching sports, fishing, and hunting. Danny was content to enjoy his hobbies alone but was also willing to share his interests with others. Danny’s retirement finally arrived in 2014.
Danny Ronald Mitchem passed away on September 05, 2021 at Morton General Hospital, in Morton Washington. He is survived by his siblings, children, and grandchildren. Services will be held on October 22nd 1:00 p.m. at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent Washington. Following the service a celebration of life will be taking place at The Rhein Haus, located at 649 Division Ave Tacoma, WA 98403 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on October 22nd.
