

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, John Albert Melton and Willetta Edwards Melton; his wife, Jonlee Shores Melton; his son, Michael Wayne Melton; his brother, Melvin Edward Melton; and his grand-daughter, Kylie Taylor Morgan.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Laurie Melton Lawson and Lisa Melton Reuter (Kip); his step-daughter, Eva Pittman Richerson (Phil); his sisters, Faye Melton Harris (Donald) and Debra Melton Smith (Cecil); his grandchildren, Bridger Landrus Post (Stevey), Lindsay Melton Stephens (Ryan), Michael Tanner Melton (Josi), Rome Ethan Reuter, and Olivia Ann Reuter; and his step-grandchildren, Asa Richerson and Eli Richerson (Marissa). He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, William Whitfield Stephens, Michael Wayne Stephens, and Tanner Beck Melton, who all brought him great joy.
He is also survived by his beloved companion, Jackie Warren LeVert, who meant so much to him and enriched his life in countless ways.
Wayne served honorably for eight years in the United States Air Force as a radar technician. His station assignments took him to various locations, including Canada, South Carolina, Virginia, Texas, and California. Following his service, Wayne worked as an electrician for many years then had a successful career at U.S. Steel where he worked until retirement.
Wayne settled in Centreville, Alabama, where he poured his heart into transforming his home. Demonstrating his craftsmanship and vision, he undertook a complete remodel of a historic house dating back to 1850. His dedication and hard work revived the home, blending its historic charm with modern comfort, an enduring testament to his skill and love for his community.
Wayne was known for his work ethic, resilience, and generous spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of service, craftsmanship, and a life well-lived. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.
A visitation for Wayne will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Centreville Baptist Church from 10 am - 11 am with services starting at 11. Burial will follow at Ocmulgee Baptist Church Cemetery in Selma, AL. Officiating will be Cecil Smith, Chuck Oliver, and Donald Harris.
Pallbearers: Tanner Melton, Bridger Post, Rome Reuter, Ryan Stephens, Chris Smith, and Kip Reuter.
Honorary pallbearers: Caleb Harris and David Colley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ocmulgee Baptist Church – Cemetery Fund.
