Luther Clyde Perkins

Luther Clyde Perkins, also known as "Rip Perkins" or "L.C." age 89, of Cottondale, Alabama passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023. He was born on May 19, 1934 to the late Lula Colburn Perkins-Breland and Luther Benjamin Perkins.

Mr. Perkins served in the U.S. Navy in Guam from 1952 until 1962 with an honorable discharge as an E6 builder. He also worked with his great uncle Otha Perkins' Supervision and later became self employed as a masonry contractor for 65 years. Some of his longest jobs were in Bibb County, the gym and the National Guard Armory, both in Centreville, the McFarland Mall Theatre and Bama 6 Theatre, both in Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County Jail, Gordon Palmer Hall, Hillcrest High School, and the University of Alabama Law Center.

Mr. Perkins was a kind and gentle Christian man who loved the Lord and his church family and friends. He loved playing guitars while in the Navy and singing Southern Gospel music in church. He loved his family, children, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

He is survived by his son, Bobby Dale Perkins of Duncanville; daughter, Sheree Perkins Kelley of Coaling, Al; 5 grandkids, 11 great-grandkids, several nieces and nephews; and two very special nieces, Betty Jean Perkins and Laura of Louisiana.

He is preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Herman Breland, the mother of his three children, Margaret Browning Perkins; son, Luther Ray Perkins; grandson, Christopher Shane Fondren; great-grandson, Declan Jake Plunkett; three brothers, Farris Perkins, Charlie Perkins, Troy Perkins; and sisters, Lily Averette and Elaine.

A visitation for Luther will be held Monday, December 4, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home, 805 Birmingham Rd, Centreville, Alabama 35042. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 1:30 PM at Old Salem Church Cemetery, North Perry, Alabama with Rev. Junior Stephens officiating.

Serving as pallbearers are Wade Kelley , Bryan Perkins , Benny Richardson, Bobby Dale, Frank Milner, and Tony Colburn.

He left a mark in this world on a lot of people hearts. RIP Luther Perkins. Fly high with the angels.
