Malcolm Monroe Rowe, “Tom”, of Pensacola FL, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023 after a long battle with dementia. Tom was born on August 25, 1940 in Pondville, Bibb Co, AL. He was the fifth child of seven born to Connie L. and Euell (Crews) Rowe.
Tom spent his younger years creating mischief with his three older brothers, Jim, Bill, and Dewitt – much to the exasperation of his three sisters, Dean, Nanette, and Lynn.
These childhood antics would be the source of many tales – some tall – told by the brothers to children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews during family gatherings. Always bringing everyone to tears of laughter.
Tom graduated from Bibb County High School in 1960. Shortly after, he went to work for his brother, Billy Joe, at Busch Jewelers. Tom would help set up new stores so that they were ready for the new managers to take over. Finally settling in Pensacola, Tom went to work at Sears as a salesman. In the second half of his career, Tom became a journeyman electrician, and worked at the Mercedes plant in Vance, AL for many years until he retired.
Even more than Elvis, Tom loved football. He coached and refereed little league teams in Ensley and Molino FL and was a referee for local high school games. His family has lived in the Tuscaloosa area for nearly 200 years, so of course, he was a passionate Alabama Crimson Tide fan. Up until his last days he would greet everyone who visited him with a grin and say, “Roll Tide!”
Tom is preceded in death by both of his parents, three brothers, James Earl Rowe, Billy Joe Rowe, and Dewitt Crews Rowe. One sister, Doris Jean Rowe. One niece, Amanda “Amy” Johnson, and one great nephew, Drew Johnson.
He is survived by his three daughters, Cheryl Rowe Moore, Laura (Rusty) Payton, Kimberly (Arthur) Hagg. Nine grandchildren, Christopher and Sarah Smith, Langley (Nik) Koraponova, Ryan Payton, Jordan, Cara, Megan, and Hailey Hagg, and Liam Moore. Three great-grandchildren, Maks, Lukas, and Kia Koraponov. Two sisters, Nanette (Donnie) McKinney, and Lynn (Gerald) Johnson. A host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, January 27 at Rockco Funeral Home in Centreville, AL from 6pm – 7pm. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 28 at Pondville Methodist Church at 10am.
Those wishing to donate to a charity in lieu of flowers are encouraged by the family to consider the Alzheimer's Association.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.rockcofuneralcentreville.com for the Rowe family.
