Robert Earl Marcus

Robert Earl Marcus, 75, of Marion, Alabama, passed away on Monday, February 3. He was born in Marion on August 9, 1949, the only child of John Arthur Marcus Jr. and Marjorie Hughey.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Susan Kay Anderson; his children, Jaan Susan Marcus Talton (Thomas Gregory Talton), Sara Ruth Marcus Berry (Mark Charles Berry), and Robert Bryan Marcus (Richard Edward Morrison Jr.); and his grandsons, John Edward “Jack” Talton and Charles Hunter Berry. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Hugh Patrick Ivey, John Walter Anderson Jr., Donald Alvin White, and Claude Dudley Anderson; his sisters-in-law, Theresa King Anderson, Theresa Anderson White, and Caroline Hollinger Anderson; and a large extended family, including aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Erma Earle Oakes Anderson; his sister-in-law, Marion Judith Anderson Davis; and his brother-in-law, Thaddeus Jones Davis.

Robert retired from the U.S. Postal Service after more than 24 years as a rural letter carrier serving communities in Perry County. He later worked as a member of the Perry County Board of Registrars. A lifelong and active member of Siloam Baptist Church, he served as a deacon.

An avid reader, cook, and outdoorsman, Robert was an expert hunter and fisherman. He loved animals and always found ways to help those in need. He also enjoyed working with his hands, completing numerous building projects, and designing and painting fishing lures.

Services will be held on Saturday, February 8, at Siloam Baptist Church in Marion, will be officiated by Pastor John Nicholson. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Heiberger Methodist Church Cemetery.
